Program terakhir pengurus MIIS 2008-2009 adalah mengadakan perjalanan ke Mount Baw-Baw. Tempat ini dipilih karena relatif lebih dekat dibanding dengan Mount Buller. Diharapkan peserta mempunyai cukup waktu untuk bermain dan menikmati dinginnya salju yang bertaburan.
Perjalanan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 18 Juli 2009, dengan menggunakan 3 bis, yang mengangkut 168 peserta baik anak-anak maupun dewasa. Inilah tour terbesar yang pernah diadakan MIIS. Berangkat dari clayton pada pukul 08.00, mundur dari jadwal seharusnya 07.30 karena banyak peserta yang datang terlambat. (more…)
Azhari Yahya, seorang kandidat Doktor dari Monash Asia Institute. Menyelesaikan master dari Australian National University (ANU) di Canberra. Berencana menulis thesis tentang Aceh dengan judul : “Social impact of foreign direct investment on local communities: Case study in Aceh province, Indonesia”.
Bapak dua anak ini aktif mengikuti pengajian di Masjid Westall. Selama di Melbourne tinggal di rumah yang cukup luas halamannya di daerah Kanooka Grove. Sering terlihat naik sepeda ke kantornya di Clayton untuk menulis thesis beliau. Selain itu beliau juga mempunyai karir yang cemerlang di Laurent Bakery.
Pengurus MIIS 2008-2009 mengucapkan selamat bertugas kepada Bapak Azhari Yahya dan jajarannya dan SEMOGA SUKSES.
Pada tanggal 4 Juli 2009, bertempat di beddoe 69, di adakan bbq untuk menyambut kedatangan mahasiswa baru dan melakukan pemilihan presiden MIIS periode 2009-2010. Acara dimulai dengan pembacaan ayat suci Al Quran yang di ikuti oleh saritilawah. Dilanjutkan dengan perkenalan mahasiswa yang baru datang.
Mahasiswa yang akan pulang diminta memberi sambutan dan juga diberikan kenang-kenangan dari MIIS berupa sertifikat. Makanan dan minuman pun dihidangkan, hasil sumbangan para warga MIIS. Tidak lupa daging kambing dan sapi ikut dibakar, sehingga aroma sedap melingkupi udara sekitar tempat acara berlangsung.
Puncaknya, acara dilanjutkan dengan pemilihan ketua MIIS. Kandidat ketua MIIS adalah:

Acara pemilihan ini dibawakan oleh Bapak Zulfikar. Akhirnya pemilihan dimenangkan oleh Bapak Azhari Yahya dengan 60 suara. Sehingga komando MIIS periode berikutnya dipegang oleh Pak Azhari. Dalam pidato kemenangannnya, Pak Azhari mengatakan bahwa MIIS kedepan akan menitik beratkan pada pengajian dan kajian ilmiah. Tetapi tidak akan melupakan fungsi wisata, olahraga dan lainnya.
Acara di lanjutkan dengan makan-makan yang telah disediakan dan acara ditutup ketika satu persatu peserta meninggalkan tempat acara.
